Alaska Halibut

Icicle Seafoods is proud to be one of the world's leading processors of Pacific halibut, whose firm white flesh and delicate mild flavor enable it to star in a variety of recipes. The largest flatfish in the world, halibut can grow up to nine feet in length and weigh several hundred pounds. Halibut is caught using longline gear comprising groundline, buoy lines, and gangions, which are short pieces of line with hooks on the end. Most halibut is sold fresh and flown and trucked across North America. It is available in a variety of forms: headed and gutted, trimmed or untrimmed in various grades, forms, and sizes, including fillets, portions and steaks. Alaska halibut are harvested from early March until mid-November, with the fishing grounds stretching from Northern California almost to Nome, Alaska.
